Commonplace book : Oxford, [ca. 1648-ca. 1660].

Poems and theses compiled during the Civil War. Almost all the poems are by members of St. Johns College, and relate in a large measure to college and university events. They all have a very decided Royalist flavor, and are written in Greek, Latin and English. Twenty-four are signed T. E., who apparently made the collection and owned the volume. There are eight poems on the birth of Sir Robert Shirley's son, probably Seymour who was born at Oxford, January 23, 1648. Also included are five speeches given for various degrees by students including T. E. himself. The manuscript consists of 151 pages, some blanks, written in two sections, the first up to page 76, and the second beginning at the end and going forward.
